Born November 1974, Mary J. Salang grew up in a small town of Sarawak on Borneo island.
At the age of 16, she was one out of two students selected to further studies in MARA Junior Science College – a group of boarding schools created by the People’s Trust Council, a Malaysian government agency (known as Majlis Amanah Rakyat – MARA). The institution provides learning facilities for bright students in local schools throughout Malaysia.
She completed her A-Levels in MARA Science College in Kuala Lumpur, before she left for United Kingdom to pursue her degree. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Business Accounting from London School of Finance and Management.
Mary graduated in 1997 in the midst of Asian Financial Crisis, but managed to secure her first job as an Account Executive. From there on, she has more than 16 years working experience, diversified across Business Development, Sales, Marketing, Brand Management, Enterprise Operations, Training, Performance Management, Change Management and currently in Customer Service and Experience.
Mary resides in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. She works for Malaysia’s first mobile telecommunications provider, where she currently heads the Training Academy & Service Mannerism for front-lines.
Mary’s strength is in her personality. She’s direct and assertive, action oriented, motivated by achievements and results. She is a self-starter, risk taker and a problem solver.
Throughout her working experience for different industries, namely Information Technology, Consultancy, Electric Utilities and Mobile Telecommunications, Mary discovered her passion for people development and it’s connections to emotions management in business.
